Council lays out aggressive plans
Posted August 14, 2:00pm – The August Church Council meeting (8.13.08) was a wonderful blend of cooperation,
planning and sharpening the vision for the future of our ministry. Discussion included everything from painting
to a service of celebration. Here are a
few of the agenda items:
- Committees meetings needing to be held before Charge
Conference will be scheduled in the next week or two.
- The bell tower project has been
completed and the prayer chapel has been spruced up and is now functional
again.
- The
next three projects to be tackled by the trustees: replacing the main doors to the sanctuary
(5th Street),
painting exterior of the parsonage (windows and wood surfaces), replacing
the attic louvers on the church building.
- The trustees
have a long list of improvements to be made over the coming months and
years. We thank them for their
dedication and for improving and maintaining the church property.
- New pew Bibles! We will soon provide the opportunity for
members to purchase and dedicate new Bibles, replacing the older version
currently in the pews with brand new NIV Bibles.
- Brother
Truman shared good news about the three churches on our charge, and
invited everyone to celebrate worship
in Kinder on Sunday evening, October 12th.
- Brother
Truman will lead a study of the
Gospel of John on Mondays in
September, starting Sept 8th, 6:00pm. Each session will be followed by Holy Communion
at 7:00pm.
- Our UM Ladies are organizing and will
begin regular meetings. They have exciting
plans to grow new ministries as well as support each other as Christian
women. Pray for their
planning! Next meeting: Monday,
August 25, 2008, 6:30pm – Fellowship Hall.
- Plans
are underway for a special celebration
of completion of the stained glass window project – possibly around
Thanksgiving.
- Pat Dossman reported on the solid financial footing of the
church. God is blessing us so that
we are successfully funding mission and ministry in addition to providing
for the administrative and maintenance needs of the church.
- We
will welcome new members on
Sunday, August 17th.
David and Michelle Reed will join the church. They have two beautiful children, Elise
and Lianne. The family recently moved
to Eunice from Puerto Rico.
- Future
calendar items: ARK Day, September 13th; Charge
Conference, September 28th; Fall BBQ, October 11th; Kinder
Evening Worship, October 12th; Blood Drive, November 9th
- Our
District Superintendent, Rev. Steven Spurlock, will be with
us in worship on Sunday, September 28th. Charge Conference following morning
worship at noon that day.
There are many other exciting things coming our way! Stay tuned!
